For that price, I'd go with UST. However, most every local wire rope supplier terminates the wire ropes they supply and many areas have multiple suppliers. google wire rope for your community. I had a replacement cable made here for an LM354 at West Coast Wire Rope. Nicopress is the cheapest/simplest, but 1/4" and larger DIY tools are pricey. I absolutely don't use the two bolt swagers. There is also a gage made to insure the Nicopress sleeve is properly compressed and one sometimes comes with a lever tool. It's important to use a sleeve compatible with the cable being terminated.

IMO, if there are any areas of general surface rust on galvanized 7x19 you are at or near the end of the service life for a cable holding up a tower.

I have the swagging tool that uses the two blocks and the bolts to crimp the ferrules. I used it and it is no way close to the crimp on the original cable. It looks like it would be fine for crimping cables that might be used to suspend an item for display or possibly something like a garage door cable but didn't feel comfortable tilting my tower over on it.

I did call them on W2LK's suggestion and the cable is $122.00. They were going call the Kansas plant to see when they could ship and get back to me, it was pretty close to closing time in Kansas. They didn't make it today, hopefully they will call tomorrow.

I guess I didn't think about them. In my mind I guess I thought of the winch as coming from somewhere else. We'll see what happens when they call me back.

Why not just buy a 1/4" swagging tool? They sell the "swags" at Lowe's

Subject: [TowerTalk] Tilt Over Cable Replacement

I have noticed some surface rust starting on the tilt over cable on my
HDX-555. I have purchased replacement cable but am having a heck of a time finding someone who can properly terminate it for me. Any suggestions from
any one on where to start looking? I hit up the local small airfield but
they don't have anything for the 1/4" cable. I tried a shop that makes
hydraulic hoses thinking they had presses, they might also have the dies for
swagging but they don't either.

Has anyone ever gotten winch cable replacements from UST directly?

Thanks
Phil
