I bought a Gotham V-80 vertical when I first became a ham in 1962. The advertised specs never mentioned the need for radials, etc. I did better "out-of-band" on 40M than "in-band" on the 80M novice band. Got my only OO report. I also learned not to believe advertised antenna specs ever again.

And for an inexpensive all-band antenna, no one has yet mentioned the various Hex antennas. All quite good, low cost, and light weight.

You could be right. Until somebody tries it this will all be guesswork regardless of one's
position.

For me personally you will not be catching me buying any multi thousand dollar antennas because it is simply not in my budget. I don't resent anyone buying or selling at whatever price they wish by the way. I just know there are a lot of hams like me out here who will install a used tribander that they paid under $100 for on their tower and like me, they will be very grateful that they could. Hopefully the light-hearted nature of my earlier post was noticed by
some with the Gotham reference (grin!)

Sincere best wishes to all.

If the prices were that out of line relative to the costs of
designing/building/marketing ham antennas, I suspect that we'd have more
companies in the business and fewer consolidations. I don't think it's
a growing market.
