The BN 86 is prone to arcing to the ferrite rod especially if the SWR is high
and you run power. The BN4000 is essentially a short piece of small diameter
teflon coax with ferrite beads around it jammed into the same case and filled
with a hard as nails epoxy.
The problem with the BN4000 is that after years exposed to cold and hat, the
case cracks. The epoxy filler also expands, and in case, the center conductor
pulled away from the coax connector. It was quite a job to cut it open and chip
away at the epoxy and fix the connection. You did the right thing bu going to
the Balun Designs unit.
