I had this failure too, but I don't think it was vibration. I think this
is partially due to a design issue on the pot. Earlier (pre-MFJ) pots
had thin phosphor-bronze wipers riding on the hard nichrome resistance
wire element. More recent ones, seen at the MFJ display at Dayton a few
years ago, now have a thicker pad of another material soldered to the
end of the wiper arm. So somebody at Hy-Gain/MFJ knows something about
this failure mode.
