I have never seen a service manual, but there should be a schematic in the back
of the user manual. most likely its the box, but before you send it for repair
disconnect the plug and test the motor power resistance to ground. the way the
speed control works in those controllers it can be thrown off by a ground path
in the motor circuit. This is also the frequent cause of it rotating faster
one direction than the other. If you get a low resistance to ground on the
motor circuit you may have water in the cable or connector or a short to ground
in the motor noise filter.
as far as testing you can try the simple things without the rotor cable
connected. measure the motor voltage while pushing the rocker switch and see
if the speed control changes it... there should be a range of 12-24v or so.
you can rotate the motor to near the stops and see if you can measure the
voltage on pin 6 change as the slowdown limit switches close. and make sure
the indicator works from end to end.

I had a close lightning strike that damaged some equipment, including my
G-2800DXA rotor. It still works by using the left/right buttons, but the
preset control doesn't work and neither does the slow start/stop and
speed control. Only full fast now. I can't seem to find a service manual
for it, and want to make sure it is the box before sending it in for
repair. I opened the case and don't see any obvious damage. Anyone know
if there are any tests I can make or any other insight into this
