Bill, I have what was originally a 69' (now only 60') Heights tower that I use as the base for a vertical on 80 and 160. The base is insulated from ground by inserting Fiberglas rod between the bottom of each leg and the mating legs of the short tilt base. The rods are purchased slightly larger than the legs' I.D. and are turned down on a lathe to fit snugly inside. A short length of the Fiberglas rod is maintained at the original ID to act as a collar for the legs to rest on. Been up for about five years in typically heavy winds here with no problems.

I have a 55 foot Heights self-supporting aluminum tower that I would like to
use as a vertical. Has anyone had experience insulating the base of such a
tower? If so how did you do it?

Thanks,

William Osborne, K5ZQ
