To the best of my understanding, for freestanding towers, you HAVE TO

Contractors regularly use back hoes for the entire hole. Often there is no choice but to
"form up" and properly compact the back fill.
A good back hoe operator can leave the edges of the hole as undisturbed as
someone with a shovel.
Never say never, nature has a way of making you do things differently. You may
have to use an extra yard or two of concrete. Just ask your ME

I'm not saying that's what you said re: "trencher", but you can't do
that...
Thanks to Mike Ryan, K4CVL for pounding that into my thick skull

I want to see if I can get a reasonability check on the price to

There are many areas where that is not possible. The back hoe does
meet "undisturbed soil". The mean, not formed and filled. Where it's
not possible, the back fill has to be properly compacted. For those
in dry sand, the base has to be made larger and it's time to hire an
engineer.
