Always use NoAlox or Penatrox when joining copper to Aluminum.
I used SS bolts to clamp and squeeze my copper strap (2") to an aluminum
plate inside my external surge suppressor box. I used a nickel plated
copper buss bar (4"x1/2", 1/4" thick - old mainframe computer buss bar) as
a compression bar. Wrapped the copper strap around the bar twice, and used
two SS bolts through holes in the outside ends to clamp it to the Al plate,
with lots of Penatrox. Final attachment was to drill and screw in four SS
#10 by 1/2 inch long screws through the copper wrap, into the nickel plated
copper buss bar and through to the Al plate. (could use small SS bolts
instead)
The idea is to give the copper strap from the outside plenty of grounding
path to the Al panel. All my Alpha Delta arrestors are bolted to that Al
panel inside an external weather proof box, along with all my 56V MOVs on
all control lines (via terminal strips).
If joining copper to copper, do NOT use Penatrox or equivalent. For copper
to copper you must use specific copper to copper compound, it is totally
different... For copper to copper, I use HARGER brand HCAJC8 compound (or
try Burndy PENE-8 - there are other brands as well)
