Remigio, the engineer at US Tower, told me to use beeswax.
Guys --
The reason he mentions that is because that's what the assemblers use
in order to make the sections slide back and forth when they're building
the tower. And the tower is HORIZONTAL.
As far as putting something on the legs, I don't see as it's necessary
and at the worst it's dangerous because the tower needs to be extended in
order to apply the beeswax.
I don't see any compelling reason to lube the legs. If you do, the
lubricant is going to rub off in a couple of up/down cycles anyway. Then what?
If your crank-up is making noise when it's moving, it's mostly
unlubricated cables rubbing. After an application of cable lube (e.g. PreLube
available from championradio.com), the tower will make very little noise - even
if nothing is done to the legs.
