N3TD, Eric a wire beam on 40 meters will out perform any vertical due to ground
gain.
My 3 element wire beam is in article #6 on my website. Also see #10. You don't
need to make the horizontal wire half wave if you use full wave loops. This
puts the feed and front and back elements access able at ground level. ( No
hanging coax) I put them on trees. Your trees may reduce the gain of verticals
giving poor results. At 40-50 feet the 80 meter beam will also work,especally
well after sunset.
