I have been reading each posts on this thread with a great deal of
interest. I am getting ready to install a crank-up, fold-over (total height
of 44 ft or so) but I have a fairly small backyard in which to make this
antenna work for me. I had the opportunity to buy a really nice Steppir 3
element, but the turning radius and element length was pushing the neighbor
tolerence envelope just a little too far. The backyard is approximately 35
X 55 feet, so my thought is something with a shorter boom and a turning
radius of around 20 feet or less. The first thing that came to mind was a
hex beam. Then another local ham offered me an older KT34 tribander. If
money was no object then a Steppir DB11 might be in serious contention. I
have a few weeks to decide since some of my ham pals who might be helping
are down in Visalia (where I would love to be instead of going back to work
this afternoon Hi Hi). Any other ideas out there on a small yagi; sure
would like to include 17 and 30 on the tower and that has been the appeal
of the hex beam. Thanks in advance and have a great weekend.
