Many thanks for the replies. Perhaps a bit more detail is in order: I
have been looking into running my station fully remote at times, and in
general it appears that good internet is a priority. Here in Ridgeway
township, Orleans County NY, Time Warner Cable has a monopoly on cable, but
is not required to supply service to thinly populated areas. After
multiple requests, they said they would supply cable to me for, gulp,
$26,000. Right. The Hughes satellite internet we have is pitifully slow,
and not up to remote ham radio needs. So the plan is to link from our QTH
to town, about 3 to 4 miles, and buy the internet service at an in town
site. When the snow melts two of us will try to get line of site info, and
if i can go from high in a barn to town, interference should not be a big
deal, but if 60-80 feet of elevation is needed, which is very likely, I
hate to go to all the trouble of installing equipment up there if they get
zapped by 20 meter RTTY !
