Dave is correct ... especially the 'tighten DOWN' part.
Start with the bearing and work down to the rotor, tightening the
rotor LAST, making certain it is in alignment LAST.

Bolt it all roughly into position so it can be lifted. Then once it is
vertical just loosen the bolts a bit, line it up, and test, then tighten it
all back down.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Aligning rotor, mast and thrust bearing
My new tower project is moving ahead nicely. All major parts have arrived,
including the tower itself (a custom 8.5m x 0.2m diam galvanized pole). Now
it's just a matter of finishing the construction and installation.
I've been working on aligning the rotor (PST61), mast and thrust bearing
(TB3). I was thinking about bolting everything to the tower before they
crane it into place (suggested by the installer). However, I'm finding it to
be a challenge to align things correctly, particularly with the tower laying
down at an angle - too many degrees of freedom.
I suppose I could just wait until the tower is vertical, but even then it
seems like it won't be easy (since it was a custom build, I would also like
to confirm that the bolt holes for the rotor plate and the thrust bearing
line up correctly). If anyone has any suggestions / tips along these lines,
I would love to hear them.
