Thanks guys for all the good input. I failed to mention that I have a "T"
base with the proper "ears" on it for the LM470. It is made of 3/4 steel
that is to be bolted to the concrete pad. More research has shown that the
"J" bend is not the norm now. Will be busy checking out some of the

I see no problem with your system either other than cost for all-thread in
the correct size. Dies in larger sizes are somewhat expensive and harder to
come by. I had the good fortune to had worked in a place with a full
machine shop and machinist that made lot of neat items. Since I've retired I
have to look a little harder but if I need a cage I can get weld type rebar
and weld any cage that needed. I have made in the past a LM470 cage complete
with ears. I might have the plans somewhere. The ears are more work than
welding the cage. Your skills might be different than mine but I find most

I mentioned before that a local bolt store sold bolts in 12 ft lengths. I
meant to say all-thread stock. And comes in a number of diameters, grades
and strength. You can buy nuts and washers like other are suggesting and
attach to the bottom of your length of the all-thread.
For my two 70 ft towers, I actually welded rebar to the all-thread to hold
the whole base together. Some say not to weld rebar, but considering it will
in encased in concrete, I see no problem. The remainder of the rebar can be
wire tied together. My towers have held up for years.

I rebuilt a Tri-Ex LM470 in 1999, and got the majority of my hardware
(galvanized bolts, pulleys, sheaves, hardened bolts, etc.) from RH Fastener
Supply Co.

FWIW when I installed my LM470, I purchased the foundation cage (as
mentioned by a previous poster) from Tri-Ex, attached re-rod, and the entire
assembly was lowered into the foundation, suspended by a frame, prior to the
concrete pour. The "cage" is entirely embedded in concrete, except for the
three "tabs" which extend above the top of the concrete surface. The tower
tower legs are bolted to the tabs.
I would recommend following factory specs on putting up this heavy
self-supporting tower. I do not believe this tower be safe, self-supporting,
or properly installed just using bolts in the concrete.
