Steel does not age. If it ain't rusty, it's fine. Danger point is the unseen crevices in the crimp fittings. Maybe cut a couple apart and see how they look inside. Painting it all with cold galvanize seems a good idea. It sounds like bigger than 3/16, so be sure you aren't getting in trouble with extra weight of wire and insulators. EHS is cheap and you don't need near that many insulators, IMHO, so maybe rebuilding is not so bad.
