I always solder PL259 plugs with my old Weller TCP 50W iron and never had
any problem

Because a Weller 100 watt gun usually melts the coax before the connector
gets hot enough to work. I have a 230 watt dual gun and usually about 50%
of the time the connector is soldered
and the other 50% means you throw the connector away.
