To tie mono filament merely twist 3 or 4 turns on itself after threading
through the eye of whatever you are tied to,
thread the end back through the eye and pull. The twist cinches up on
the end which is locked on itself. Same knot used on fishing hooks and
lures.
Mono, etc does deteriorate in the sun though.
I use black Dacron from Wireman or Cable Experts, long life stuff.
Clothesline will age in the weather but lasts longer
than mono. Steel is a conductor, get the covered type ...
