Hi Barry, I have no actual experience with this but common sense says that
the answer depends entirely on the resonant frequency of the central
structure.
If it is resonant at 1.825 MHz, there just HAS to be a big effect on the
four square pattern and vswr characteristics.
But, as you probably know, there are simple and effective methods of
detuning the central structure as described by W8JI.
Or, if the central structure was purposely made to be part of the
directional array, as in the driven element, the issue might be irrelevant.
