It might be worthwhile to point out that this applies to 75 ohm hardline
only, as the center conductor of the 50 ohm stuff is larger. On the 1/2" 50
ohm hardline I have, the center conductor will go into the barrel, but you
have to force it.... which ensures a tight joint. I use a 1/2 compression
to 3/8 FIP thread fitting which lets the barrel thread directly in - no it's
not the "right" thread, but close enough that it works fine and has good
conductivity without soldering. I've done hundreds that way here. I also
concur with the suggestion of a little dab of NOALOX under the compression
fitting.
