I have heard that copper ground rods are no longer going to be used because
of some reaction it sets up with other metal objects in the ground (like guy
rods). Has anyone else heard that?

All of my ground rods including those for the service entrance have
their tops about 3" below the surface.
That and I use so many ground rods compliance is not an issue.
