A couple of follow up questions: What would be the effects of close spacing
to the existing tower and what would be the minimum spacing from it. Also,
what would be the effect of a metal barn spaced closely to the tower, and
will it be a problem if the barn is in a direction not normally used (in
this case south west of the tower). The barn is currently NOT grounded.
Note, I can provide a pdf layout of the property for review.

Subject: Spacing of vertical antenna from existing tower
I want to install an all band vertical on my property (probably 18HT) where
I have an existing 80 ft crank-up tower with a 4-el SteppIR with 30/40 meter
trombone element.. The "sweet spot" for my proposed vertical is approx 120
to 130 feet from the tower. I would like to know how spacing of the tower
from the vertical will affect it's performance. The tower is very well
grounded. The main purpose of the vertical is for 80 and 160 meter operation
but possibly I may use it on other bands as a 2nd antenna or for SO2R
operation.
