My story:

In 2000, I went to live in another state to go to school and took my
entire ham radio station.

When I returned home in 6 months I unloaded my ham station in my garage
(due to cold snowy weather)and place it on the floor behind my car. When
I opened the garage door to get the car out, I put the car in reverse
(stupid I know) and backed over my whole station. Allstate the insurance
company paid for all new equipment, as I had replacement cost coverage.
That means that any item, no matter how old or how available it was at
the loss date would be replaced with like kind or better.

The one interesting item was a hand held computer, with basic installed.
Value $10 bought at a ham radio swap shop. They elected to replace it with a
$1500 laptop, as there was nothing close to its capabilities of lesser expense.
Likewise my Drake R4, T4X (value $400) was replaced with a new Yeasu FT767GX,
(value $2300), among other items.

Good insurance pays off sometimes.
