I helped a friend do this once. We tilted the LM-470 over,
disassembling the booms of several antennas to let the tower
get horizontal. Then we slid the mast out almost all the
way, and pulled the rotator out of the space near the top.
We had a strong person on a stepladder supporting the mast,
and keeping it from rotating, but it was a hairy and
dangerous operation. The mast really wanted to rotate, since
the antennas were so unbalanced. Next time I would make a
special mast support fixture out of long 2x4's with one bolt
connecting them to make an X. Some sort of muffler clamp /
angle iron fixture to keep the mast from rotating is also
required. A stout person on a stepladder will probably still
be required, but the fixtures should take most of the heavy
effort.
