Roger, I had an XR5 here for about a year. I decided later to buy a STEPPIR
in order to get a 30/40 option which AT THE TIME was not available on the
XR5. But the antenna was impressive, considering the size / boom length.
With two full size elements on 5 bands it had real good bang for the buck.
You can also change to those bands INSTANTLY, rather to wait for the antenna
to tune itself like the STEPPIR. If you are limited to what you can handle
on a tower like me, this would not be a bad choice. They sell the XR5 with
an available 2 elements on 40 now which is very cool but makes for a longer
boom and greater cost and wind load to be sure. '73, Mike

Subject: [TowerTalk] Anyone have up a Force12 XR5 they would comment on?
I am looking at getting on of these and would like some comments on anyone
that has used one. At present, I have up a CL-33 and a A3WS above it to
cover the 5 bands from 10 to 20 M, but want one antenna that covers all
these bands with similar gain. My tower is a UST HDX555.
BTW, I am finally getting realizing that motorizing my crank-up is in the
future. I have cranked down the tower a few times lately and now the old
back has spoken "no more". Also, time to replace the K1550 with the K2550 I
have had for 6 months but never installed it to replace the tilt over winch.
