Anything above 2 will make it a better antenna. I agree exact length isn't 
important.Up to a point the more the better.?You can bend them too. Zig Zag if 
necessary to go around things. A driveway trimmer? with a solid blade or a weed 
wacker with heavy duty string turned on it's side digs trenches in soft ground.
