This thread has taken on a creative bent.
1) You wouldn't need a 100w lightbulb in the 5 gallon weather
protective cover.
5 or 10 watts would more than do it. And yes, you would want to
make sure it
didn't get splashed with water. But, gee... would that 10W
resistor really have to
be in a glass envelope, or could we just get a wirewound job & fire
it up? Might
even run it off of 12v, instead of 110. Would have to run 12v out
there to power
the tuning solution, anyway.
2) I like the idea of a 'roughing tuner'... that is, a set of L or
PI networks which
matched each band, down to the 3:1 or better vicinity. Then deal
with the
remainder in the shack. As long as you didn't have a hugely long
run of coax,
it shouldn't kill you.
why a simple, switched network? Shouldn't cost a kilobuck. Would
be more
robust, with no moving parts except a few relays.
A series of relay switched matching networks would be quicker for
band change
than an auto-tuner.
