Nope. Don't grease it if you want to follow the manufacturer's
recommendation.
So how do you know if "did a much better job"? Based on what? This is
another anecdotal story that may or may not be useful information.
In all things, follow the LXC Prime Directive to "DO what the
manufacturer says" and you'll typically have better and safer results.
