I've successfully used copper scrubbies, where the hole was out of the weather. kept the snakes and mice out. Where it's exposed, what's sold as "electrician's pug" is perfect. They use it to weatherproof power service entrances. Remains pliable over a wide temp. range. You can buy it at Ace hardware for 2 bucks per pound.
