By the way, you can unsolder the capacitors and measure the
capacitance value pretty accurately using an antenna
analyzer in the capacitance mode. Look for large changes in
value. I would bet on the "resonating" capacitor on the
transmitter side to be bad.
When reinstalling new caps, you can tweak for min swr by
wearing a rubber glove and transmitting low power. Slide the
unit out of the case only as far as necessary to reach in
there. Squeeze the coils and move the caps for min swr. I
suppose you could use an antenna analyzer, rather than a
real transmitter, but that wouldn't be as adventurous.
