Brian,
I would say this more of a visual issue than a mechanical problem. It's no
different than the surface rust on your car's brake drums. I'm anxious to
hear what others think.

I recently purchased a used tower, complete with a full set of EHS guy
wires, from a ham some ten miles from the US East coast. While the tower
itself and the guy wires are in excellent shape, the u-clamps on the guy
wires show significant amounts of surface rust. I can remove the nuts after
applying penetrating oil and there does not seem to be any rust beyond the
surface of the bolts, clamps or nuts. Do these clamps need to be replaced?
