I have had great success using a dual tram (trolley) for the last 18 years
and I rarely go back to a single tram. The advantages is the antenna is
totally captivated in one plane and you need minimal to no ground crew.
The antenna can only slide up the tram lines or down. I have also left the
antenna on a dual tram overnight. The disadvantages as Steve points out is
you have dual lines to rig and you have to control the spacing. You also
have to be concerned about tension in both lines but you can also use
differential tension to rotate the ends of the antenna up or down to clear
guys.
The dual tram was used this weekend to put up a Force12 6BA with a ground
crew of one. Next weekend it will be used to erect a three stack of 20
meter OWA's again with a ground crew of one. Perhaps I need to write a
book. :-)
