You can build very robust connectors for very little expense, but I 
think you will find the CATV splice more than adequate.  End 
connectors?  As has been mentioned, finding something to mate with 
either N or UHF connectors might be a bit tough.    This is what I had 
up for some years with about a 360 foot run of 3/4 Aluminum hard line.

quasi  air-core 1/2". The stuff was more rigid than 7/8" Heliax.
