Howdy, TowerTalkians --

There was a recent rotator discussion where a poster determined the
loading that included a mast. The relative formula (weight times turning
radius)
gives Effective Moment (Hy-Gain) or K-Factor (Yaesu). This is a much better
way to look at it than the old square footage estimates but even this is an
estimate. An educated one, but an estimate nonetheless.

Throwing in the weight of the mast threw the numbers off significantly.
When it comes to rotator capacity, the mast is a non-issue. You don't add the
mast weight in - just the antenna figures.

There's no problem including the mast. (weight 80# times turning radius
of 1" = 13.3 foot/lbs) The mast has no effect on the rotator capacity.

Cheers,
