Hello all - This is an observation and not a complaint.

Over the last few months, I have noticed a growing problem with people that are
using computers/soundcards interfaced to their HF rigs. On numerous occasions
I hear the familiar MS Windows chimes coming through on someones QSO. (i.e. new
mail notifications, error beeps, and many others) I even heard someone typing
on their keyboard while listening to PSK on 20 Meters and not to mention a
dogbarking in the back ground. Though the user may be unaware of this while
he/she is operating - here are a couple tips to rid this issue.

1. Build yourself a PTT keying circuit or purchase a commercial interface and
stay away from VOX.
2. Disable the common windows sounds(new mail notification, start navigation,
etc etc) if you have a dedicated computer.
3. If you have a computer that mixes the line in or mic from the front of the
computer with the jacks on the back of the computer, unplug your desk mic that
may pick up any unwanted audio. i.e. don't leave your computer mic plugged in
if you have the audio piped in through another input.
4. Monitor your transmit audio for any beeps, blings, or other sounds.

This may seem obvious, but I'm currently listening to 2 of these issues on 20
meters
