Hi Barry:
I guess there are no satelliteers about so let me enlighten you. The DIN
plug on the back of the G-5500 controller is for a separate computer
interface between the controller and a serial (and recently a USB) port.
These dates back to the old Kansas City Tracker (now obsolete). The Yaesu
GS-232A/B and C are quite pricey and you can build your own with USB
interface for 1/4 the price. Others ? Yea, there is FODTrack, Uni_Trac,
SatEL, Labjack U12/Piggybak, W0LMD Mini/Junior/Senior Trackers, ARS from
EA4TX, WinRotor32, and on and on. The best source for information on
up-to-date interfaces is the AMSAT group. They are constantly working on
better ways to interface the G-5500 rotor as it is the de facto standard for
satellite alt-az positioning. For software control of all this, most use
SatPC32 as well as Nova.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Yaesy elevation rotator
I'm about to install a G-5500 elevation rotor, which I have used in the
past, with good luck except for the small analog meter-readout.
The meter is (with my eyes) difficult to read accurately, and is calibrated
in 7.5 degree increments.
There is a DIN socket on the back of the controller which is labeled
"External Control", but not a mention of that in the manual.
I Googled the subject, and got about a million hits, but nothing that I
could use.
Anyone aware of how to externally control this unit? Or, at least, use a
large digital readout?
