How do I analyze the strength of a Gin Pole, not the kind for lifting
tower sections, but the kind used to raise a crank-up tower from
horizontal to vertical?
I am proposing using 10 ft of 5 inch schedule 40 pipe attached (welded)
to a plate bolted to the concrete base for a HG52SS crank-up tower
(about 500 lbs)
I am assuming a 1000 lb lateral force at the top of this Gin Pole, and
want to know how to calculate from a strength of materials point of view
whether it will be strong enough, and even what its strength would be
(maximum force that could be applied without deformation)...
I am an engineer, but in the electrical / computer field, not civil or
mechanical and need some help finding the right reference material.
