Harry,
The LM-470 used a 1/2 HP motor. Grainger #6K122. Had a small 1-2" sheave
on the motor and a 11" sheave on the gear box. The LM-470 also has a 4:1
pulley raising system.
The Hygain HG-70 has a 3:1 system. You night get by with the 1/2 HP but
depending on the load on the tower, it may have a tendency to slow down and
stall. Going to a 3/4 or 1 HP motor should solve this problem. There were
several versions of the winch. Early versions actually had a direct drive to
the
gearbox. Then they went to the drive belt with the motor mounted horizontally
to the right of the gearbox. Last versions had the motor mounted above the
gearbox on the outside of the mounting plate.
The LM-470 also had a pull down cable. Hygain did not have a true pull down
system.
