Back before computers told us that everything we did was wrong I put up a
Vee that was 2 1/2 wave per leg on 80M and 5 on 40. Height was only 60'
which was all I could do with 8 scrap telephone poles and 2x6 extensions. It
was strictly to work the South Pacific on greyline in contests. There was no
5BDXCC back then.
I found a pair of 100 Ohm 200W glass resistors at a fleamarket and used 4
150W light bulbs in series/parallel on each side as well. Ground was in the
Exeter River at the rear of the 12 acres I had back then. A Johnson KW
Matchbox loaded it perfectly and it worked as expected and outperformed
inverted Vees at 90'. Power was from a NCL-2000.
