Gang-
Until last winter, I had a G5RV that was a flat top @ 50', and worked well.
Now, ice storms took down my 2 end supports, and I am left with one center
support. I have been doing some reading about the G5RV installed as a vee,
and
some big time troubles. I own no modeling software to verify this, but,
during FD from here, in 1E class, the G5RV as a vee did well. about 650 cw
QSO's
in 7 hours op time, most on 40/20 meters. Has anyone heard of pattern
troubles with the G5RV as a vee??
Here is my question. Would I be better off replacing the G5RV with a 135'
balanced feed dipole, as a vee??
If so, another problem is getting the feedline into the shack. What would
any negative affects be if I had about 100' of the 450 ohm feedline, going to
a remote 4:1 balun, then about 40' of RG213 into the shack? Am I wasting my
time?
BTW, if you going to bash the G5RV ( as a flat top, not a vee ), don't waste
your energy typing. In 9 years, I have archived 113 DX on 80, & 132 on 40. A
tribander takes care of 10-20. I also do pretty well in domestic contests
like SS with it. So, it did work...
I am installing a GAP Voyager to help with the lower angle stuff on 80/40.
Thanks!
