Kelly..... I found pictures of the mount in the 20th ed of the ARRL Antenna
book. It appears that the way it was built was STRONG!!! Might be worth
finding a copy of the book and look at the pictures. I don't have a scanner so
can't copy it for you.

I can picture this in my mind, but isn't that a lot of stress to put
on the u-bolt and mast since you now have the entire weight of the
antenna pulling down on the "boom section" with no counter-weight on
