Like someone else said....I don't believe that there is going to be a
stampede to the ham bands just because a 5 wpm test has been eliminated.
I have yet to actually meet someone who has not got a ticket simply because
of the code test.
Likely some folks will get a ticket because the requirements became slightly
easier.
As an Advanced class holder, you have already passed the code test for the
Extra years ago so I don't understand how eliminating the 5wpm test affects
a serious attempt at the Extra test.
Especially now since the sub bands have been expanded the apparent need for
the Extra has been reduced ....unless you want to work CW.....which you
apparently don't.

Dave,
As an Advanced ticket holder, I have for years considered upgrading to
Extra. Now the recent FCC change will inevitably bring more hams into our
ranks and the "General Sections" of the bands are going to be more crowded.
This is the last little push I needed to get off my duff and make a serious
attempt at the Extra test.

before??

Look on the bright side. With all them CB'ers getting their tickets, ham
radio equipment prices will drop. And think of all the channels we can
make
on the new 75 meter SSB band allocation.
Seriously, getting an Extra class license upgrade will become a top
priority
for the Advanced a General ticket holders.
