Rick,
I don't know about the HG-50MT2 but I have the HG-35MT2 (the 35 foot
version) and it is rated for 9.5 square feet in 50 mph winds side
supported at 8 feet. I have mine supported at about 17 feet which is the
eve of the second story of the house. As for the rotator I use a Ham III
and yes, it mounts to the top of the tower per Hy-Gain instructions. I
have had no problems with it in the 25 years that I have had it up with
a Cushcraft ATB-34 about 3 feet above the tower top. Admittedly, I do
crank it down if the wind starts to pick up so it hasn't had any real
tests in that area. One other thing, the Ham III will handle 7.5 square
feet mounted in this fashion. I think the wind speed is also 50 mph.
