The primary benefit of the Vaseline is that it prevents oxygen and acids in the air from reacting with the metal surface you are trying to protect. The metal to metal connections will be fine and any gaps between the metal will be protected from the air which will reduce oxidation and the resultant corrosion and breakdown of the electrical connection you are trying to preserve. The exposed Vaseline will eventually melt away in the summer heat and sun and it will also evaporate in several years time. The Vaseline within the tubing connections will last much longer, perhaps longer than the antenna itself. 73, dave wa3gin _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ TowerTalk mailing list TowerTalk@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/towertalk |
