Hi Carol,
This is not such a strange problem at all and will be quite
common between the 2 antenna's at different heights ana at different
times of the day or night, into different parts of the world. Europe is not
all that far away and the higher angle of radiation you get from the lower
antenna would be a major advantage to you quite often. Now, move the
DX location farther away, say Asia and you will rarely, if ever have
the better
signal on the lower antenna.
