Hi David,
I have their "4-step" model (4 steps as a fully-compressed A-frame and16
steps if fully extended). It's so old it doesn't match any of the current
models. Back then they only made 3 different ladders, all the same weight,
and with 3, 4 or 5 steps when compressed. I happened to have my booth at a
tradeshow right across the isle from the Little Giant booth and all week
long I watched their rep extending, compressing, folding and making that
ladder into its various configurations. At the end of the show I knew I had
to have one so I bought his demo unit before he could pack it up. That was
in the 70s and although I was on a tight budget back then, I have never
regretted spending the bucks on it. In fact, as our business grew, we
bought them for salesmen, crew chiefs and service techs. They are great
ladders. I still have the first one I ever bought and although it is a
little rough looking, it still works fine. In fact, you can see it at work,
including in an unadvertised position/mode, on my tower construction picture
page: http://s14.photobucket.com/albums/a317/k0hps/Tower%20Project/
Another handy thing is to be able to remove the center section and just use
it by itself when you need a narrow ladder, like for getting up into the
attic.
The new ones even have a lifetime warranty.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Laddder question
Hopefully this isn't too off-topic: After an unfortunate incident involving
a large tree limb, a not-quite-out-of-the-way a-frame ladder, and gravity
(fortunately, my son and I were well out of the way), I find that I need a
new ladder. (If anyone needs some kindling, please contact me off-list. :-)
) I've seen the infomercials for the "Little Giant" ladder system, and while
normally the mere fact that something has an informercial is enough for me
to steer clear, I checked out their website (
http://www.littlegiantladder.com/) and it looks pretty interesting. I did a
little research on the web, and I haven't seen anything bad, and in fact, I
did find a number of pretty good comments. They are somewhat pricey, but for
what I'd get it may well be worth it. (In addition to my recently departed
A-frame ladder, the extension ladder that I have is old, somewhat flimsy,
and a bit too short anyway).
I was wondering if anyone on the list had any firsthand experience with
these, good or bad, that they'd care to share? To keep at least marginally
on-topic, in addition to general household use, this is what I'd use to get
onto the roof where my current antennas live.
Thanks.

David, K2DBK
