I wonder if you want to start "re-engineering" a solution then maybe
you might as well bypass cleaning up the AC sinewave off the generator
and just convert the output straight to high current, low voltage DC
(e.g. 12V) and filter that, since the computers and ham equipment use
12 and 5 volt DC internally.
I wonder if you could use a sealed lead acid (SLA) battery to power
the West Mountain Radio's PWRgate [1] to handy the DC load until the
generator stabalizes.
Just a crazy half an idea.
