The conduit enters the box from the right side in the photo. The cables
exit the box down through the one foot long vertical stub on the left.
The second photo from the top shows how the stub is sealed to keep out bugs
and critters. I use the "soft" expandable foam "in-a-can" that you can find
at Lowes, Home Depot, or most any hardware store. There are two kinds of
foam-in-a-can that I've seen available. One is a yellow foam that becomes
rigid and expands. Use it around a door frame of windown and it'll never
move again. <:-)) but it would probably work in this case. However I much
prefer the soft white stuff that is relatively easy to remove. You patch it
with another shot of foam from the can.
Incidentally the conduit no longer comes in through the basement wall, but
rater through the end plate between the floor joists. Outside is a smaller
version of the NEMA 4 (Hoffman box) mounted on the side of the house and
painted to match the siding.
