One word on welding of rebar cages instead of tying together with tywire, DON'T.
It used to be somewhat popular to weld some portions of rebar installations
industrially about thirty years ago, but the people who test those things found
that the composition of the bars themselves was such that welding seriously
weakened them due to brittleness in areas next to weld. Same thing applies to
ladders made up of rebar rungs with 2x 1/4 flat bar rails. The welds were
allowing the rungs to break just inside of the welds.
So any welding in these area would be against the prime directive!
