Big tanks DO blow out from their ends. This BLEVE (Boiling Liquid
Expanding Vapor Explosion) occurs when the "safety valve or pressure
relief valve" malfunctions, and won't allow pressure building up in the
tank escape, or escape fast enough.
As far as the tank's proximity to the ground rods, do yourself a favor:
Ask the company who will install, fill, maintain this tank what you
should or shouldn't do.. You'll sleep better at night knowing you did
the right thing. If no joy, email me direct, I'll try to get some
research to you through NFPA..
