I have my Cushcraft 2 el 40 cranked down to 36 feet (14 feet over my roof).
It is pointing at 45 degrees. I still seem to work out OK. It did take
three calls to S01R when he called for 4's. The other nite I was working
DP5A on SSB (split) and when we finished Larry VQ9LA called me.
Of course the beam works better at 86.5 feet but I feel my beam conditions
are much worse than your 27 feet on a high hill.
